Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds. Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dear Friends,
I am no longer doing most of what I said in my last version of this page.
I am running a monthly Salon Series in, of all places, Queens NY! These musical/social events have been most enjoyable, featuring
a different artist each month (See "Appearances"). I am no longer trying to create another communal living space in Toronto. I'm enjoying performing
here and hanging out with artists of different stripes.
I had been heading up fundraising and publicity for Laser Eagles Art Guild, a non-profit
charity. By enabling people with physical disabilities to do art who normally would not be able to, Laser Eagles is building a future where everyone is an artist, or at least has the opportunity to be one, and
everyone is respected as a contributor to relationship, to community, and to what works.
I am now representing Laser Eagles' founder and director, Judith Snow, to create a world of Peace Through Inclusion (see Article 1). For most of my life I have known that I wanted to end suffering. What I realized recently is that inclusion of those labeled disabled, and also of marginalized and subjugated women, creates a relationship and cultural context where peace can flourish.
I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude. Henry David Thoreau
I am a certified Reconnection Healer. This is an energetic (hands-off) healing, which also transmits information or knowledge from the universe. I have had dramatic results
from connecting with this energy in every area of my life, including eliminating being upset. I have a much greater ability to accept, relate and negotiate with people, as well as having a strong and ongoingly
consistent sense of well-being. Unlike other healing modalities, you do not need come more than once.
'Tis healthy to be sick sometimes. Henry David Thoreau
Getting ongoing Health Kinesiology treatments has been most beneficial, little grasshopper. I'm only 15 pounds overweight (lost 45 pounds in 6 months), for the first time since 1986. I've had different weird physical symptoms come and go, and be corrected through H.K. It has slowed me down, but
Getting old is a fascination thing. The older you get, the older you want to get. Ralph Waldo Emerson
I've learned life lessons in patience, living
within constraints, acceptance and gratitude. ALERT!!!! – I'm starting a 14-day fast Nov. 11, and I think it will be difficult and challenging. Friends, I request your support, especially
calling me at specified times – please call me at 718-225-5707 and we'll discuss that support, and what I will do in exchange. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Check out recently made demo
tape of my popular music, consisting of solo piano, and also including 3 fabulous singers – Ben D'Cunha, Michael Coady, and Maggie Hollis. Hear clips on the website, or ask me for the whole demo CD!
I plan to make a meditation CD with Tony Woodroffe, and also have thoughts of making 1 - a blues and ragtime and 2 - a dinner background music, i.e. sort of cocktail music, perhaps as a compilation with
other recording artists.
I thank and acknowledge the partnership and generosity of the group of music lovers and friends who contribute to my life, keeping Art, community, and spirituality present, way
too numerous to mention them all, – In Toronto, Judith Snow, James Keezer and Adi, Digna who makes video tributes, Tim Kinney, David Shelley, David Walsh, Marilyn Cornwell, photographer, Gary Wein and Mina
Korman, bon vivants, Carol Wilson, minister, Judy Mann, inspirer; In New York, Sharon Flanagan (my web designer), Tom McDonald and Bill Habart, Josh Orlean, Dennis Heller and Terri, David Heller and Monica, Mom,
Nina Sitron, Tony Woodroffe (music producer), Kimberly Sutherland, Reina Seedarnee; In Ithaca, Adrienne McNair, Jim and Judy Hardesty, Jan Dellibovi, Rula Aslanis; and, everywhere, YOU!!!!!. I also
wish to thank the organizers and sustainers of the Fourth Way community in Toronto, particularly Ross Laing, Dermot Grove-White and Tomas and Sandra Dombi, and Landmark Education Corp, for keeping me on track for living a life I love, and being powerful.
In Happiness, David
Some of my ongoing commitments: One of my commitments for the last 25 years is to support The Hunger Project for the sustainable end of hunger. What a wonderful 30th year anniversary celebration at New York Hilton we had in October, over 1000 attendees, featuring powerfully speaking peasant women from Bangladesh, India and Africa.
I started up the Holiday Project again in New York City in 2006. This year we will increase the number of visits, and I also may get it started in Toronto.
I hate quotations. Tell me what you know. Ralph Waldo Emerson
I love listening to NPR (e.g. New Sounds on WNYC,
weekdays 11PM) and WQXR, especially contemporary classical and other contemporary composed/fusion (and improvised) music, e.g. World Music. I'm compiling a list of the good and great 20th and 21st Century
composers, and the right settings in which to listen to them. For instance there's some great trance-like music, but maybe you shouldn't drive while listening. Actually one of my favorite things is to
drive and listen to this music after midnight.
